War of 1812 Re-Enactment

Join more than 200 soldiers and settlers as they set up camp for the annual War of 1812 Re-enactment from September 6th & 7th, 2025. Battle demonstrations will take place on Saturday & Sunday.

Each year on the weekend following Labour Day, historical re-enactors converge on Backus Heritage Conservation Area for what many people view as the highlight of the year – the War of 1812 Re-enactment.

- military and civilian encampments
- cannon and musket firing demonstrations
- childrens militia
- Sutler’s Row vendors
- historic cooking demonstrations
- historic presentations
- weaving and spinning demonstrations from the Norfolk Fibre Arts Guild weavers, products will be available for purchase (September 7th & 8th, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm)
- period demonstrations and activities in Backhouse Historic Site
- tours of the 1798 Backhouse Grist Mill, the mill that didn’t burn during the War of 1812
