War of 1812 Re-Enactment

Join more than 200 soldiers and settlers as they set up camp for the annual War of 1812 Re-enactment from September 12th & 13th, 2026. Battle demonstrations will take place on Saturday & Sunday.

Each year on the weekend following Labour Day, historical re-enactors converge on Backus Heritage Conservation Area for what many people view as the highlight of the year – the War of 1812 Re-enactment.

COST: Conservation area day pass ($16/car, up to 7 people) *pay at the gatehouse

Activities include:

    • battle re-enactments
    • military and civilian encampments
    • cannon and musket firing demonstrations
    • children’s militia
    • Sutler’s Row vendors
    • historic cooking demonstrations
    • historic presentations
    • weaving and spinning demonstrations from the Norfolk Fibre Arts Guild weavers, products will be available for purchase (September 12th & 13th, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm)
    • period demonstrations and activities in Backhouse Historic Site
