This 80 acre island site is located 9 miles out in Lake Erie and is managed as a wilderness area. Tall Hackberry trees with an understory of abundant Poison Ivy dominate the island. A great variety of ferns, wild flowers, mushrooms, and other plant life abound. It is largest colonial nesting bird colony in Lake Erie. The site is noted for having the largest Heron and Egret rookery in the Great Lakes. Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets comprise 65 percent of the nesters.
