The 1,821 acre site is located along State Route # 2, approximately 17 miles west of Port Clinton, Ohio. The area consists of wetlands that serve as important habitat for over 288 species of migratory birds, as well as waterfowl and fish. Over 153 species of songbirds have been sighted, including 36 species of warblers. 29 species of ducks and 4 species of geese can be seen during the year. In the spring migration ducks, geese, and Whistling Swans occur in large numbers.
