The Long Point Region Conservation Authority invites applications for the position of Lands & Waters Technician. (6 Month Contract Position with the potential for Permanent; for a copy of this position description in PDF, click here) The successful candidate will be responsible for technical support in the implementation of the Authority’s Conservation Services Programs.

Qualifications

  • University or college graduate in resource management
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Ability to work with and supervise work crews
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to relate to landowners and other members of the general public
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and summaries as required
  • Initiative and high level of self-motivation
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • A proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Valid driver’s license (class ‘G’)

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical support for the conservation services program of the Authority. These projects may include working with landowners to plan, plant and maintain windbreaks, reforestation, vegetative buffers along watercourses, and erosion control structures.
  • Sample, compile, and report on water quality programs for selected water courses and groundwater within the watershed.
  • To provide support in the operation and maintenance of water control structures owned by the Authority.
  • In the field supervision of summer students and special employment staff as required to assist with the completion of conservation services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
